Artist Statement: Encounters
The Art of Creation Through Interaction
In my work, I explore the universal process of creation as a dynamic encounter between forces, inspired by philosophy and the fundamental principles of science.
Creation, whether in the cosmos, nature, or art, arises from interaction, tension, and balance between at least two distinct elements or forces. Newton's laws reveal that forces always act in pairs; quantum physics shows particles and their antiparticles emerging together; the early universe's complexity unfolded through symmetry breaking, differentiating one unified force into many. Even life itself depends on countless encounters between organisms and their environments.
Through watercolour, I embrace this interplay of opposites — pigment and water, control and chance, structure and flow. In Encounters, vibrant blue and magenta merge and contrast, symbolizing the dialectic dance of duality and unity that fuels all creation. The fluidity of the medium mirrors the unpredictability and spontaneity inherent in natural processes, where chaos and order coexist and create.
My paintings are visual meditations on this essential truth: that nothing emerges in isolation. Creation is a dialogue, a meeting point, an unfolding relationship - whether between particles, forces, colours, or ideas. By witnessing these encounters on paper, I invite viewers to reflect on their own moments of transformation and the forces that shape their existence.
This work is both a celebration and an inquiry into the beautiful complexity born when differences meet and unite the very essence of becoming.
Experimenting with water-based paint on paper in the attempt to understand the art of universal creation, may sound like an impossible task, but what would be the point of an endeavour I already know for sure that I can achieve?
